Joe Kiehl
Senior Advisor, Global Risk
Joe Kiehl sustained a consistent record of exceptional performance during a 27 year career at CIA. He served multiple tours as an overseas Chief of Station, served at Langley Headquarters as Chief of Operations for the Africa Division, and was selected competitively from among his senior operations officer peers to serve as the Executive Assistant to the DDCI and DCI. His individual Human Intelligence (HUMINT) tradecraft, interpersonal, management, teaching, and writing skills have long been recognized and acknowledged as the very best produced by CIA. Among the many private clients for whom Joe has worked since his retirement, his field work for ExxonMobil in Chad and Nigeria would stand out as particularly exceptional.
Joe has worked closely and highly successfully over the years with virtually every U.S. Government agency involved in overseas and/or HUMINT work, most notably the Department of State, the FBI, the DEA, and the various Military Commands (SOCOM, CENTCOM, etc.) . Since 9/11, Joe has concentrated primarily on Counterterrorism work under contract to the U.S. Government, which has taken him on multiple trips to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Algeria, and Morocco among many other locales. Joe holds a BA (’72) and an MA (’86) in International Affairs from the George Washington University, and resides in Arlington, VA.
